The Rev. Dr. Patricia Murphy is a Preacher and Teacher of the Gospel. She is a native of Brooklyn, New York Dr. Murphy’s early spiritual training was received at the Wayside Baptist Church, in Brooklyn, New York, under the late, Rev. Dr. Joe L. Parker, Pastor for over 20 years where she has served as the, Church Announcer, Sunday School Teacher, Usher, Pastor’s Aide, Choir Organizer and President, and the Wayside Educational Support Program (WESP).
In 1994 Patricia relocated to Newark, NJ. However she continued to commute to her home church, Wayside in Brooklyn, NY until 2002 where she joined the New Hope Baptist Church. In May 2005, Patricia was licensed to preach the gospel at the New Hope Baptist, Church in Newark, New Jersey, where the Rev. Joe A. Carter is Pastor. At New Hope, Patricia also served as an Associate Minister, Church Announcer, Organizer of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry, and Instructor for the Christian Bible Institute.
In the Fall of 2006, Reverend Murphy was recruited by Carolinas Healthcare System, (a level one trauma Hospital, Charlotte, NC into their Chaplain Residency Program. Her intensive training consisted of rotations in an Acute Care Nursing Facility, Women Services inclusive of: Oncology, Labor and Delivery, Neo-Natal ICU, Kidney Dialysis and the Levine’s Children Hospital and Children’s Emergency Department.
Upon completion of the program in 2008, Reverend Murphy became a Staff Chaplain PRN. While in Charlotte, Reverend Murphy served as Youth Minister, at the Mayfield Memorial Missionary Baptist Church where the eminent Rev. Dr. Peter M. Wherry is the Pastor. At Mayfield Patricia designed and created an entire Youth Wing which consisted of: a Youth Chapel, Youth Conference Room, Youth Library, Youth Activity Room and Youth Class Rooms. She also taught Youth Bible Study, New Member’s Classes, Preached the 2nd Annual four Day Youth Revival and other Ministerial duties such as: Preached and Taught Adult Bible Study and Lead the Ordinances as directed by the Senior Pastor. Patricia was ordained on November 11, 2007.
In July, 2010 Patricia return to Brooklyn, New York to accept a position as the Protestant & Palliative Care Chaplain at Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y where she provides spiritual support and counseling to Patient’s and Staff an active participant on the Palliative Care Interdisciplinary Care Team, the Detox and Mental Health Units. Dr. Murphy was just awarded a Scholarship by the City of New York to the Montefiore-Einstein Certificate Program in Bioethics and Medical Humanities. Patricia is also an Associate Minister at Calvary Baptist Church, Jamaica, NY where the Rev. Dr. Victor T. Hall, Sr. is the Pastor.
Patricia’s educational credentials includes: Certification from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting; she holds an, Associates of Applied Science in Business Administration from Essex County College, Newark, New Jersey, a Bachelors of Science in Management, from Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey and a Masters of Divinity Degree at The New York Theological Seminary, New York, New York, Certification from Carolinas Healthcare Systems in Clinical Pastoral Education, Charlotte, North Carolina Doctorate in Pastoral Theology from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington D.C.
Patricia is a Member of The Association of Professional Chaplains, Greater New York Hospitals Palliative Care Collaborative, Church Women United and The Brooklyn Chaplains Association, Founder and Organizer of Many Words Ministry. Patricia has written numerous pieces such as: Inter-Cultural Pastoral Care, The Spirituality of Palliative Care, and Devotionals for the 2011 & 2012 Women’s Lenten Journal to name a few.
Dr. Murphy’s favorite scripture is: Psalm 34:1; “I will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
